Beyond the Wild: Life as a Wildlife Student at Kukama’s New Campus
Beyond the Wild: Life as a Wildlife Student at Kukama’s New Campus

In the heart of South Africa’s rugged landscape, where red sands meet vast skies, a new chapter in wildlife training is unfolding. Kukama Wildlife College has officially opened its brand-new student accommodation and classrooms, reaffirming our mission to provide high-impact, field-based conservation education rooted in comfort, community, and excellence.
But what does daily life really look like for our students? Let us take you beyond the wild—and into the heart of the Kukama experience.
Adaptability at the Core: What "Kukama" Means
Our name, “Kukama,” meaning Oryx, reflects the very spirit of who we are. In a region known for its harsh environmental conditions, the Oryx survives through adaptability and resilience—two values we’ve built our training philosophy on.
Just like this iconic antelope, Kukama Wildlife College thrives in challenging conditions. We navigate logistical, ecological, and educational challenges with creativity and perseverance—delivering wildlife training that’s not only accredited, but transformative.
Student Life, Reimagined
We’ve just launched our new student accommodation, thoughtfully designed to be your home away from home in the heart of nature. Each student house features:
• 2 Bedrooms, each with:
o Two single beds
o Two study desks
o Two wardrobes
• 2 Bathrooms, each with:
o A shower and vanity
• A shared patio overlooking stunning scenery
• Reliable solar electricity
• Warm water and off-grid living comforts
Whether it’s early mornings prepping for game ranger training or winding down with classmates under the stars, these homes offer the perfect balance of community and solitude.
New Classrooms, Same Wild Spirit
Our new classroom facilities are now fully operational—providing structured learning spaces that seamlessly blend with our wild surroundings. This is where theory meets practice. One moment you’re learning about animal behavior, and the next, you’re in the field, tracking wildlife on foot or on game drives.
And because we’re a FGASA-endorsed training provider, students know they’re receiving top-tier education aligned with industry standards.
Beyond Textbooks: Real-World Wildlife Training
At Kukama, learning doesn’t stop when the lecture ends. In fact, that’s when it often begins.
• Night Classes give students the chance to observe nocturnal wildlife and gain rare insight into nighttime behaviors.
• Ecology & Conservation Projects help build practical skills and instill a deep understanding of biodiversity.
• Leadership Development & Teamwork are woven into daily life, from fieldwork to group decision-making in the bush.
Our curriculum was designed to take you far beyond the typical wildlife conservation classes—preparing you for a career, not just a certificate.
