About Us

Our Founders
Two Friends. One Shared Dream.
Kukama was founded by Christiaan Venter and Nikki Meiring — lifelong friends united by their deep love for nature and education. After reconnecting years after first meeting in Zululand, their shared vision led to the creation of Kukama, a thriving centre for youth education, rewilding, and species reintroduction at Olienhout Game Reserve.
Our Name
Kukuma – Inspired by Resilience.
“Kukama” comes from the local name for the Oryx gazelle — a powerful symbol of endurance, adaptability, and quiet strength. These values are at the heart of everything we teach. More than a name, Kukama represents the spirit of our college.

Our Purpose
Conservation is More Than a Career – It’s a Calling.
We believe the future of conservation lies in immersive, ethical, and real-world education. Our students don’t just study nature — they live it. Learning from the land, from each other, and from seasoned guides, scientists, and conservationists, they gain practical tools to build meaningful careers.
- “The future will be green, or not at all.” – Jonathon Porritt
- “In the end, we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand.” – Baba Dioum
Why Kukama?
We Do Things Differently
- We train in the wild, not in a classroom.
- We teach through experience, not just theory.
- We shape tomorrow’s safari guides and conservation leaders.
Our passionate team of experts is dedicated to equipping the next generation of environmental stewards — wherever in the world they come from.
